Start-ups from the HGI are successful: In the open competition Senkrechtsstarter 2019, the start-up Emproof took second place with a prize money of 10,000 euros.

Top-class spin-off from the HGI

Emproof was founded in 2017 by Marc Fyrbiak, Philipp Koppe, Benjamin Kollenda and Julian Stratmann at the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI). Emproof helps companies protect their products against industrial espionage.

Companies invest a lot of time and money in the development of software that can be found, for example, in car control units. This software can be read and stolen by attackers. The protection process makes it almost impossible for attackers to reconstruct the stolen software.

The twelfth Senkrechtsstarter competition took place

The twelfth Senkrechtsstarter competition started in November 2018. 238 people took part in the competition in teams with 50 business plans. In just six months, the vertical take-off pilot leads his participants from the idea to the mature business plan.

"The trend towards innovative start-ups from the university environment is unbroken among the top teams of the vertical take-off company," says Ralf Meyer, Managing Director of Bochum Economic Development. All four teams, which will take first place in 2019, come from the university world.

This year, Bochum Wirtschaftsentwicklung has distributed a total of 59,000 euros in prize money to the high-flyers.
