On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, HGI Prof and CASA speaker Angela Sasse (Chair of Human-Centred Security) participated as an expert in the public hearing of the Digital Committee of the German Bundestag. Within the session on "Ideas to strengthen cybersecurity in Germany", she gave a statement of about 5 minutes. Following her research on the human aspect in IT security, she pointed out that users of digital services felt often stranded. According to her, finding competent help and information in the field of IT security might be too complex. This would undermine trust in the state. For this reason,

"IT security experts and the state (...) must provide IT users, and their time and attention, with respect and care - 'humans as a blind spot' must be banished from the discourse,"

she said in her statement.

Other guests at the hearing included Prof. Dennis-Kenji Kipker, professor of IT security law at Bremen University of Applied Sciences; Manuel Atug, founder and spokesperson for AG Kritis; and Julia Schuetze, project manager for international cybersecurity policy at Stiftung Neue Verantwortung. You can watch the session in the video on this page. Prof. Angela Sasse speaks there from minute 42:40.
