During the application phase of the German IT Security Award, a total of 54 projects were submitted from all over Germany, from which the high-profile expert jury will now select the participants for the second application round in the next step. At the end of the selection process, there will be ten concepts and solutions for IT security, from which the first three places in the competition will be determined.
The jury, chaired by Prof. Dr. Michael Waidner (Institute Director Fraunhofer SIT), has so far been made up of: Daniela Gerd tom Markotten (Deutsche Bahn), Julia Hermann (G&D), Dr. Rainer Baumgart (secunet AG, RWTÜV AG, Eurobits), Prof. Dr. Angela Sasse (Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security), Konrad Rieck (Head of the Institute for System Security at TU Braunschweig), Thomas Caspers (Federal Office for Information Security BSI), Susanne Dehmel (Bitkom e.V.) as well as Dr. Thomas Wollinger (ESCRYPT GmbH, ETAS GmbH). For the second round of applications, the jury will be strengthened by additional experts from the fields of IT security, cryptography, system and network security and defence against cyber attacks.
The award ceremony of the 9th German IT Security Award on 10 November 2022 in Bochum will be flanked for the second time after 2020 by the Cybersecurity Innovation Conference, which will be hosted by the industry association Bitkom.
About the German IT Security Award
Since 2006, the Horst Görtz Foundation has been promoting research and development work as well as highly innovative young scientists in the field of IT in Germany. Every two years, the foundation awards the prize for IT security in Germany with the highest endowment of 160,000 euros. The Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security at the Ruhr University Bochum and the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology in Darmstadt are responsible for organising and hosting the award ceremony.
