IT security is more than technology

NRW-Forschungskolleg SecHuman in the focus of the current "Datenschtz und Datensicherheit - DuD" issue...

When it comes to IT security, many first think of the technical components. How important it is, however, to place the topic in the context of society is shown by the NRW Research College SecHuman. The interdisciplinary project, which is based at the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security, is now the focus of the current issue of DuD - Datenschutz und Datensicherheit (11/2019).

Under the title: "IT security is more than technology", the 13 PhDs of the project present their tandem promotions, in which researchers from one technical field work together with researchers from another discipline. These include anthropology, German studies, law, media studies, psychology and social sciences.

Topics such as "The Right to Forget", "Two Considerations of Security and Privacy after Snowden" or the question of the "DSGVO as an International Model" are just as interesting for non-experts as they are for interested experts. The presentation of the topics "How do Reverse Engineers work?", "The Development and Implementation of IT Security Standards as a Social Negotiation Process" and "Authorship Analysis" also offer exciting insights into the research work of the scientists.
