Local residents, political figures and researchers came together on 3 February in Bochum’s Jahrhunderthalle for the grand opening of the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) and to discuss the effects of digitisation on society. The newly established centre is the result of cooperation among a consortium of institutions under the leadership of the HGI.

Thanks to CAIS, North Rhine-Westphalia now has a one-of-a-kind forum for encouraging conversations among researchers, politicians, representatives from industry and business, and citizens about the internet and digitisation. “CAIS is not only meant to promote research. The centre is also meant to incorporate experiences and knowledge from society more broadly and contribute to the responsible shaping of the change resulting from digitisation,” explains Prof. Dr. Michael Baurmann, the Scientific Director of CAIS. All three CAIS programmatic areas – fellows, projects and events – are currently accepting applications from interested parties: http://?www.?cais.?nrw/?

The research centre is a collaborative project between the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, the University of Bonn, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Münster University and the Grimme-Institut. CAIS is located in Bochum.
