What is the goal of the funding?
The university program aims to give RUB researchers the opportunity to examine and further develop the transfer potential of their own research in exchange with international application-oriented scientists. For this exchange, RUB researchers can apply for travel and material funds in order to invite a person selected by them to RUB and to enter into an intensive and subject-related exchange in a guest program with various event formats.
The event formats can be chosen and compiled by the applicants and include, for example, interactive workshops, subject-related seminars (e.g. design thinking or maker seminars) and expert lectures on ongoing research and development activities, transfer and start-up activities abroad. There is also the option of inviting practical partners such as regional start-ups and start-up experts, so that the events bring research and companies together.
Accordingly, the program focuses on the one hand on the exchange of experience between the international guests and the participating chairs in order to further develop the transfer potential. On the other hand, the funding is intended to help deepen contacts with institutions and companies in the guests' countries of origin, to further expand the network of international partners and also to examine the possibility of cooperation projects. Furthermore, the events and exchange formats are intended to contribute to promoting the start-up interest of students and doctoral candidates, to deepen the start-up culture of the RUB campus-wide and to increase the international visibility and reach of the RUB, Bochum and the region for the visiting scientists as multipliers.
To support the design and implementation of events in the visiting program, grantees can draw on the event management expertise of the Worldfactory Start-up Center (WSC). It is expected that suitable event formats created through the funding will be integrated into the Worldfactory Start-up Center's offerings and opened to a broader range of participants.
Who can apply for the funding?
Funding is open to all RUB researchers who wish to host and submit a convincing concept. Applications must be confirmed by a letter of intent from the visiting researchers. In the funding period until the end of 2021, up to six applications for guest stays of international researchers can be funded with travel and event costs.
