Dobbertin Challenge 2023: Start on 27.12.

Between Christmas and New Year, Bochum ITS students have the chance to demonstrate their skills in the field of cryptography.

This year's Dobbertin Challenge will be published by the Chair of Symmetric Cryptography on 27.12. at 14 CET on this website, where you will find all the important information. The fastest student can win 300 Euros and will receive a certificate. The flag and a short description of the solution have to be sent to the RUB e-mail address symcrypt(at)rub.de.

The Dobbertin Challenge was founded in 2006 and has since then challenged students to solve cryptographic problems every year. It targets students of IT Security, Applied Informatics, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB). The competition is held in memory of Professor Hans Dobbertin. He was the founding director of the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI) and holder of the Chair of Cryptography and Information Security (2001-2006). In the 1990s, Hans Dobbertin became known worldwide for his work on the cryptanalysis of hash functions.
