Job profile
We are looking for a qualified representative of a current research area of human-centred security, with a focus on the security understanding and behavior of software developers. The candidates should have an excellent track record in research and teaching in several of the following areas:

  • Usability of security systems
  • User-centred design approaches in IT security
  • Software development processes and practices
  • Software security, including expertise on security vulnerabilities
  • Methods for studying security knowledge and behaviour of software developers and other technical actors (e.g. system administrators)
  • Software security patterns and their application in development practice

The candidate must have published empirical research in these areas and have experience with research methods for laboratory, online and field studies with software developers. Experience in designing and conducting intervention studies to improve software security is particularly relevant. We are looking for a Researcher with an internationally visible research profile, who can complement the existing focus and actively participate in the expansion of IT security research at the Ruhr University Bochum. We expect successful applicants to cooperate with the Horst Görtz IT-Security Research Department (HGI) and the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Cyber Security and Privacy, and play an active role in current and planned projects, especially in the context of the Cluster of Excellence CASA. The responsibility includes teaching in IT security courses and making a contribution to academic self-administration.

An excellent scientific qualification is required, usually proven by a PhD of outstanding quality and first-class international publications, as well as good didactic skills and experience in teaching and research. Furthermore, the willingness to interdisciplinary work and to acquire third-party funded research projects is expected.Find further information here.

The position will be filled with a tenure track for the professorship to W2. If the evaluation is positive, the professorship will be appointed to a W2 position in an appropriately simplified procedure without a new announcement.
