Ruhr-Israel Cyber Activator - application until December 31

The Ruhr-Israel Cyber Activator (RICA) brings German and Israeli master students together in a three-month program to solve actual cybersecurity challenges for companies from the Ruhr Metropolis.

What is the Ruhr-Israel Cyber Activator?

The Ruhr-Israel Cyber Activator (RICA) brings German and Israeli master students together in a three-month program to solve actual cybersecurity challenges for companies from the Ruhr Metropolis. The challenges are in areas such as medical technology, media, legal technology or industry 4.0.

In an in-depth opening week in Bochum und Essen (23.03.- 27.03.2020) cross cultural teams are formed to work in collaboration with the companies. After a ten-week virtual work phase in the home countries, a three-day event to present the results will take place in Israel (01.06.- 03.06.2020).

The application deadline for German students is 31.12.2019.

What you can expect

In ten weeks you will work in cross cultural teams – connecting German and Israeli cyber security students – to develop solutions for real-world challenges. The teams are supported by highly-qualified mentors throughout the program.

The project starts on 23.03.2020 with a kick-off week in the Ruhr area. Here you will get to know your team and work closely with the challenge-provider. Workshops prepare you for the cooperation in intercultural groups and with respect to useful technological tools for a successful work phase.

Afterwards you and your team will exchange ideas digitally for ten weeks and work out a viable solution to the problem.

The highlight for you is the final presentation in Israel in June (01.06.- 03.06.2020). For three days an exciting program awaits you, where you will get to know the local economy as well as the startup and tech-scene in Israel. Finally, you will present your it security solution to companies and partners.

The event in Israel will take place in the Pentecostal week (Pfingstwoche) so you will not miss any events at Ruhr-University Bochum and are free to extend your trip.

What we expect from you

For the participation in the project we require your full commitment. This includes participation in the workshops in the opening week (which takes place during semester break in March) and the program in Israel in June 2020. During the ten-week work phase you should therefore stick to the agreements with the team and the company representatives. As these are challenges with a cyber security focus, a technical understanding of this area is essential.
