Inside RUB - Open Day

The Faculty of Computer Science introduces itself.

UPDATE: Due to a warning strike by Bogestra, the event has been cancelled.

On Open Day, prospective students can find out about the three computer science degree programmes. In addition, events are offered on the topics of AI, legal hacking or the future of self-driving cars.

Where: The Faculty of Computer Science is in buildings MB and MC (Universitätsstraße 140) on campus.

Guidance on the three degree programmes ‘IT Security’, ‘Computer Science’ and ‘Applied Computer Science’

When: 10:00-10:30, 11:00-11:30, 13:00-13:30, 15:30-16:00

Description: You would like to study something to do with IT, but you are still unsure what? Or do you have specific questions about the subjects ‘IT Security’, ‘Computer Science’ and ‘Applied Computer Science’? Come by, the student advisory service of the Faculty of Computer Science and members of the student councils will be happy to help you.

Nacheghackt Podcast Lounge

Description: Chill out, listen and discover how exciting computer science can be! In the podcast lounge, you can listen to episodes of the podcast Nachgehackt – with researchers from the RUB talking about their work and the important issues in IT security. From AI and deepfakes to cryptography and digital protection measures: Let yourself be inspired and learn how you can make the digital world more secure. Come by, grab a headset and dive into the world of computer science.

 

Better safe than sorry: What the cloud can learn from your tea cup

Description: Whether photos, contacts, documents – nowadays we store and process huge amounts of personal data in the cloud. In this talk, you will learn how we can protect our data while it is being processed in the cloud and what all this has to do with TEE.

 

The building blocks of artificial intelligence

When: 11:30-12:00

Description: Mobile phone cameras, ChatGPT or Netflix recommendations – we find artificial intelligence everywhere. But what exactly does it consist of? In this lecture, we take a closer look at the smallest building blocks of modern AI methods.

 

Understanding and improving software quality

When: 12:30-13:00

Description: Software should not ‘only’ work, but also fulfil other qualities. In this short lecture, we discuss what other qualities play a role for software and how we can ensure the quality of software.

 

Hands-On AI

When: Starts at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Where: MB 2/90 (follow the signs in the building)

Description: Implement your own small AI project under guidance.

 

Hack the planet and beyond - Capture the Flag with FluxFingers

When: 1:30-2:00 p.m.

Where: Open Space in building MC (large glass room on the ground floor)

Description: Capture the Flag (CTF) events are legal hacking competitions. The team FluxFingers from the RUB is one of the best in the world – and you can be part of it! A trip into the world of binary exploitation and satellite hacking.

 

Demonstration of autonomous driving with artificial intelligence

When: 2:00-2:45 p.m.

Where: Meet promptly at 2:00 p.m. in front of the Open Space in building MC (large glass room on the ground floor)

Description: The Software Engineering research group is exploring the future of self-driving vehicles. Come and see how different robots and model racing cars (Turtlebots, F1tenth) perform on our racetrack and learn more about this cutting-edge topic!

 

Exchanging secrets with the power of quanta - a brief introduction

Time: 14:45-15:30

Where: Open Space in building MC (large glass room on the ground floor)

Description: We hear about quanta in the news all the time, but what can they actually do and how can we use them? We will find out in a short interactive introduction.
