On December 5th, the grant notification for 763.670 Euros was handed for the project “Eurobits - Centre of Excellence for IT Security” by the President Hans-Josef Vogel to Christine Skropke, the chairwoman of eurobits e.V., and Friederike Schneider, the managing director of eurobits e.V.
IT security is one of the most outstanding innovation fields in North Rhine-Westphalia in terms of research and company expertise, the importance of the competitiveness of the economy and the protection of critical infrastructures and personal data.
Sustainable industrial development
Building on the strengths and previous activities of the eurobits association, the project aims to achieve sustainable industrial development in IT security through continuously building a systematic European network, through initiating (international) research, cooperation and public relations as well as through support for ongoing startups in the Ruhr area.
Specialists from the Ruhr area
The required specialists are already being trained in NRW. NRW, in particular, the Ruhr area, is sharpening its profile of the European "Kaderschmiede" for IT security specialists.
Important indicators of the project's success include safeguarding regional business assets, business settlements, company start-ups and spin-offs, the number of transfer projects, increasing the attractiveness of research and development project funding, and the independence of products and services from the US, China and Israel (national sovereignty) as well as better consideration of regional actors in public-sector contracts.
Eurobits e.V. is a cooperation partner, parts of the donation are forwarded to Wirtschaftsförderung Bochum Wifö GmbH. Funding will be provided through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and co-financing from the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
