Every two years, the Horst Görtz Foundation awards the German Prize for IT Security with the aim of consolidating the position of IT security "made in Germany". In 2022, the Horst Görtz Foundation is again looking for new innovative concepts and solutions. This time, the 9th German IT Security Award 2022 will be organized and hosted by the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security.

Researchers and developers as well as research and development teams from universities, research institutes and companies are eligible to participate. Both concepts and solutions can be submitted for review. Startups are explicitly invited to submit their innovative ideas. The finalists and winning projects will be selected in a two-stage process by an independent jury made up of experts from the fields of IT security, cryptography, system and network security, and defense against cyber attacks. The award ceremony in early November 2022, will be flanked for the second time by the Cybersecurity Innovation Conference, which will be hosted by the industry association Bitkom.

The German IT Security Award of the Horst Görtz Foundation was established in 2006 - with the aim of promoting research and development work as well as highly innovative young IT scientists. With a total of 160,000 euros, it is one of the highest privately endowed business prize for IT security in Germany. First place is endowed with 100,000 euros, the runner-up receives 40,000 euros, and the third-place winner 20,000 euros.
