The subject of cyber-security has been growing in societal importance for some time now – in our private lives as well as in professional contexts. A number of initiatives have been launched in recent years to protect IT users from attack by cyber-criminals. These have ensured a steady improvement in cyber-security – for individual users and for companies.

A survey of the relevant activities of individual associations and collaborative efforts, however, reveals that much of the work being done is redundant, and comparable projects are implemented in more than one place. Better coordination, communication and support could go a long way towards improving this situation.

As such, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and the Alliance for Cyber-Security invited relevant parties to Bonn at the end of August for a “Dialogue Among Cyber-Security Initiatives”. A diverse array of initiatives from across Germany were presented and a number of feasible collaborative projects were initiated. Friederike Schneider attended on behalf of the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security project “nrw.uniTS”.

“nrw.?uniTS” is a security network founded in 2012 to promote and improve IT security in NRW. Under the leadership of the HGI and in conjunction with its partners, networker NRW, eco – Association of the Internet Industry and the Institute for Internet Security if(is), the network seeks to connect the research and business sectors in NRW and increase awareness about the subject in other industries and sectors.
